Common Questions

Everything you need to know about walking with us at Powerscourt

Absolutely. Our routes are designed for steady walkers with plenty of rest points built in. The estate walks are particularly gentle—most people complete them comfortably in 2-3 hours with breaks included. We match you with the right route based on your pace, not your age.

Estate walks focus on the gardens, woodland paths, and heritage stories around Powerscourt House—think horticulture, architecture, and local history. Waterfall routes take you into the valley with more dramatic terrain and geology. Both are guided, but the estate is more about the narrative and the waterfall routes are more immersive nature experiences.

Not for the estate walks—regular comfortable shoes work fine on the paths. For waterfall routes, we'd recommend proper hiking boots with good grip since the terrain can be wet and uneven, especially after rain. Either way, bring layers—the valley gets chilly even on warm days.

We keep groups small—usually 8-12 people maximum. This means our guides can actually talk to you and share stories without shouting over a crowd, and everyone gets a genuine experience rather than feeling like part of a tourist herd.

We run walks in light rain—it's Ireland, after all—but we'll reschedule if there's heavy rain or storms. You can move your booking to another date or get a full refund. Just dress for it: waterproof jacket, hat, and you'll be fine. Some of our best walks have been in mist and drizzle.

Yes, we encourage it. Our guides know the best viewpoints and lighting times. The waterfall routes especially attract photographers—we'll give you tips on composition and when to pause for the best shots.
